Nepal (not Kathmandu), 1989-1995 Emily and I went to Nepal together in 1989, and we joined a commercial trip that walked from Jumla to Rara Lake (animist carving on bridge at outlet, CW_14), and from there down a series of river valleys (DA_05, riverside farm) and over two passes to Surkhet. In 1993, we came back to Nepal on our own trip with some friends, flying in and out of Lukla and walking up the Dudh Khosi (DR_01, village hotel) to Namche Bazar for a quick tour of the Khumbu (Thame, Gokyo, Pangboche, Dingboche, and Thangboche). CW_14 DA_05 DR_01 The trek I most want to repeat is one that I took in 1995, walking around Manaslu. Starting at Gorkha, we spent about two weeks going down to Arughat Bazar (rice paddies, ER_03; artifacts, ER_14) and then up the Buri Gandaki (lone tree on pinnacle, ET_13; lone tree on slope, EU_12) past Samdo (snow-covered fields and the Larkya Himal from 3860m, FA_12) to the Larkya La (5213m). From there, we spent another week or so going down the Dudh Khola (yak on trail near Bimtang, FD_11) to the Marsyangdi, and then down the Marsyangdi (upstream against the hordes of around-Annapurna trekkers) to the roadhead at Besisahar (Marsyangdi just above Besisahar, FI_01). Before we hit the Marsyangdi, we saw just two other trekking parties. ER_03 ER_14 ET_13 EU_12 FA_12 FD_11 FI_01
